2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Painted Hills Vineyard
The vineyard site is a northwest-facing slope 600 feet above the Yakima River. At our latitude the sun rises in the northeast and sets in the northwest during the growing season giving very long warm but not excessively hot days. Cabernet clones 6, 8 and 191 ripen to a range of flavors: 6 is dense and structured, 8 and 191 are aromatic and balanced. A portion of Malbec adds juiciness and complexity. The hallmarks of wines from this vineyard are their effusive aromatics and balance.
On the nose: aromatic toasty black cherry, new leather, cigar box, dried rosemary and fresh cedar. The palate shows sweet fruit and subtle creamy oak spice on the entry, a core of black cherry, spice and restrained tannins, finishing with toast and spice. Pair with flank steak, boeuf bourguignon or dark chocolate.
