This gently sloping south facing vineyard northeast of Prosser was planted to Wente Clone Chardonnay in the early 1980s. The mature vines produce rich, structured fruit characterized by citrus, apple and mineral notes. Barrel fermented and aged on the lees for 17 months. 92 pts JS

"Juicy" is a great description for this iteration of the Lonesome Spring Ranch GSM. At 36% Grenache, 44% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre the blend has a lush, rich black raspberry character. 73 cases produced. 91 pts JS

Similar in weight to the 2016, with a bit more cherry/berry character from the Syrah. At 39% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 26% Mourvèdre the blend is close to my idealized goal for this wine. This vintage was bottled unfiltered. 100 cases produced. JS 94 pts

The northwest facing slope accumulates enough heat to ripen early in the season yet is protected from the intense afternoon rays. 2014 was a very warm vintage and this protection preserved the wine's effusive bouquet. Block Two Syrah is a unique gravelly promontory facing southwest atop Snipes Mountain. Battered by the elements the vines produce a limited crop of intense, distinctive fruit. Blackberry, violet, cocoa and dried cherry are characteristic of the wines as well as a lush, structured palate. The 2015 vintage was warm and early and deft decisions to mobilize harvest and picking at optimal ripeness resulted in a wine that combines the power of the 2014 and the finesse of the 2013. 91 pts WE & JS

Block Five Syrah is sited on a southeast facing slope between 1300 and 1370 feet in elevation, midway up the highest vineyard in the Yakima Valley AVA. The TC 99 clone Syrah ripens 10 to 14 days later than the standard Washington clone and is characterized by its darkness, density and intensity. 2016 was memorable as a break from several warmer vintages and this Syrah shows impeccable balance.
